RAY SAINT ARIAS
"I make my work about the person and the only part of me is the time and detail I give."
WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
I’m from Northern California
WHERE ARE YOU LIVING NOW?
Living in Bedstuy, Brooklyn
WHO, AND WHAT, HAS INFLUENCED YOU?
I worked with Bumble and Bumble in NYC for color and styling. While in California I trained with Vidal Sassoon.
Growing up, my family had a barbershop and along the way I was exposed to how much the work is about people and consistency. I always felt like a craftsman, even though some say doing hair is an art. I will always be proud to think of it as a craft for which I have to practice, have standards, take responsibility for delivering signature work, and being completely present.
I make my work about the person and the only part of me is the time and detail I give.
" When working on a hair concept I always ask myself, 'Does this reference something in Nature?.'
It usually does. "
WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION?
I find inspiration from the Past and Nature. From the past images of movies and models off-duty show me what has been done to be beautiful. Nature does a lot to hair; it can change its color and it can change its texture. That gives me a new perspective all the time. I think the hair/beauty world has always mimicked nature. When working on a hair concept I always ask myself, “Does this reference something in Nature?.”
It usually does.
WHO IS YOUR DREAM CLIENT?
My dream client loves to take care of themselves with their fitness, dressing up, and always bettering themselves in their work/personal life. My dream client wants easy maintenance with a signature look that shows off their individual style and beauty. I want brunettes to get their hair painted into dimensional shimmering color and for blondes to be bright and healthy.
