Rachel Duze
Where are you from?
Although born in Hunan, China. I was adopted and raised in New York City.
Where are you living now?
Elmhurst, Queens
Who, and what, has influenced you?
I've always seen the world through an artistic lens. I studied fine arts up until college. When the city shut down for quarantine it gave me an opportunity to discover hair. Unlike drawing or painting, it was only when I began my cosmetology career that I discovered the joy of incorporating identity and culture into my craft. My journey as a hairstylist has been greatly enriched by my experiences within the queer and POC communities.
These vibrant and diverse groups have exposed me to a world of expression that extends beyond traditional hairstyling, incorporating elements of makeup, fashion, and art.
Where do you find inspiration?
One of the biggest sources of inspiration for me comes from the immersive worlds of movies, TV shows, and animations. I'm constantly amazed by the way these mediums can evoke such a wide range of emotions-nostalgia, sentimentality, longing, and joy-in their viewers. As a hairstylist, I strive to create styles that capture this same level of emotional resonance, crafting looks that not only reflect each client's individual personality but also tap into the emotional impact that great storytelling can have.
Who is your dream client?
Robin Williams, he had a true talent not just for acting but moving people around him. He was reported as generous, caring and sweet.
The nicest guys in show biz, Keanu Reeves and Adam Sandler are always welcome!
